Meditation number 111

The man of God and the Word

We read in 1 Rois 17:24 how the widow of Zarephath confessed that Elijah was a man of God and that the Word of the Lord in his mouth was the truth. She declared this after he had raised her son from the dead. What mark of power from God to operate such a resurrection.

The Word records for us three instances where the Lord Jesus does this during his public ministry in addition to performing innumerable other miracles, signs of his all mighty power. Him, the Man of God, God made man, speaks the Word of God absolutely for He is all that He says (John 8 :25).

We think also of a great servant of the Lord, the apostle Paul, who after having spoken until midnight, raised Eutychus from the dead and then resumed his speaking until the morning (Acts 20 :7-12). The word of the apostle had been received in Thessalonica and elsewhere not as the word of men but as it is in truth, the Word of God (1 Thes. 2:13).

In 2 Tim 3:16, the Word of God is given as the source and the foundation of the activity of the man of God. It is in applying it to himself that the man of God becomes accomplished and completely furnished for every good work.

We will probably not be called to accomplish great miracles in the Name of the Lord but as with the widow of Zarephath of old, seeing the works of God in our lives will help convince others that the Word pot God in our mouths is the truth. (1 John 3 :18).

May we be part of those that preach the Word de God and also manifest it in our lives (Col. 4:4)!
