Meditation number 31

True religion

According to James 1:27, pure and undefiled religious service requires obedience to two exhortations. The one who goes ahead to meet the needs of the world must watch that he does not become defiled by its wickedness and corruption. We see the perfection of this service in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ: his perfect holiness made Him a perfect stranger in a defiled world while his grace made Him a perfect servant in an afflicted and miserable world. While constrained to moral solitude in the scene of sin He was crossing, He was moved to the activity of love by the misery and the needs of those about Him.
