Meditation number 28

You should not have!

The judgment of the Lord on Edom in the book of Obadiah presents seven reproaches in the form of You should not have in verses 12 to 14. They are listed here : You should not have looked… You should not have rejoiced… You should not have spoken… You should not have entered… You should not have laid hands… You should not have stood… You should not have delivered… Let us transpose this to us Christians in the form of questions rather than reproaches: Would there be reproach from the Lord for what you look at? Or do you look more according to 2 Cor. 3:18 and Ps. 34:5? Would there be reproach from the Lord for that in which you rejoice? Or do you rather rejoice according to Ps. 119:162 and Phil. 4:4? Would there be reproach from the Lord for what you speak? Or is your mouth used according to Ps. 45:1 and Eph. 4:29? Would there be reproach from the Lord for the places where you enter? Or do you rather enter into places presented in Ps. 73:17 and He. 10:19? Would there be reproach from the Lord for what you lay your hands on? Or do you rather obey 2 Cor. 6:17 and Ps. 116:13? Would there be reproach from the Lord for the place where you stand? Or do you stand according to Ex. 14:13, 2 Sam. 23:12 and Eph. 6:14? Would there be reproach from the Lord for what you deliver? Or do you rather obey Rom. 6:13 and Rom. 6:19 that it may be said of you as in Daniel 3:28? “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life “(Phil. 2:15-16)
