"Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor." (2 Corinthians 8:9)

Of thy Father, pure delight, eternal Son! Didst Thou set thy glory by, O rich One,
For Thy delights in these sons of men, So humbling thyself and coming from heaven?

Stooping from the holy place, To a manger, in swaddling lace,
In this poor family, so adorned, Thou didst e'en choose to be born

In thy youth thy wisdom increaseth, In the despised city, even Nazareth,
As a carptenter thou wast busy See His caracter, what modesty!

With the poor, in Jordan’s waters With the repentant, electing quarters
But there to witness in his favor, Dear to His heart, declares The Father.

Sole Creator of time and space Yet for thy head was found no place!
Thou thirsty was O precious Saviour At Sichar’s well in that sixth hour!
(Luke 9:58, John 4:6-8)

In our midst in true poverty Thou didst feed crowds of many!
The lame, the deaf and the blind All enriched by thee, so kind!
(John 6:1-12, Mat. 12:15)

Questioned by the pharisees, As to coins of roman money,
"Show me who’s on that tribute Was thine answer "O destitute"
(Mark 12:14-17)

Of thy vesture, thy sole belonging Our cruel hands didst do the stripping.
And then cast lots on our theft Taking all from the Bereft!
(Mat.27:37)

On the cross, of bitter dread Thy precious blood, a fortune shed,
It alone paid the debt immense Accumulated by our offense
(Mat. 27, John 19:34, 1 Pet. 1:18)

As the sparrow, so solitary We see thee hanging on Calvary!
Thou, then, the man of sorrows Now crowned with glory on the morrow!
(Ps. 102:7, Isaiah 53:3, Heb. 2:9)

Prince of life, as thou promised Of thy Spirit I’ve been enriched
Revealing now the hidden treasure; Of thy grace, beauty, and Father’s pleasure
(Acts 3:15, 1 Thes. 4:8, Col.2:3)

The poor man who saved the city None remembered, what a pity
Oh, do keep me from forgetting Thee glorious Saviour I’m expecting!
